Wonder Workshops

Building confidence at moments of change

Wonder Workshops are designed to help people see differently, think differently, and recognise new possibilities.

In a world shaped by rapid technological change, increasing complexity and competing demands on our attention, wonder is often overlooked as a serious capability. Yet wonder sits at the heart of creativity, innovation and learning. It helps us notice what others miss, connect seemingly unrelated ideas and imagine new futures.

Developed through Bird Island's Applied Imagination practice, Wonder Workshops provide practical tools for navigating uncertainty and generating fresh thinking.

Whether you work in leadership, innovation, education, government, business or community development, the ability to recognise possibility is becoming increasingly important.

What we explore

Participants are introduced to a collection of practical frameworks and exercises that help expand perception and generate new ideas. Topics may include:

• Restoring sight lines
• Signals and pattern recognition
• Fluency of ideas
• Audience and perspective shifts
• Experience design
• Sense-making and storytelling
• Applied imagination in practice

Each session is highly interactive and designed to leave participants with new ways of seeing the challenges and opportunities around them.

Who are these workshops for?

Wonder Workshops are designed for:

• Leaders and managers
• Innovation and strategy teams
• Educators and researchers
• Entrepreneurs and founders
• Community builders and changemakers
• Anyone curious about how new ideas emerge

No prior innovation experience is required.

What participants say

"I got a lot out of it, which I've been processing over the last few days. Since I don't work in a creative field, I hadn't really thought about how all of this experience is still really central to what I do and study."

"The workshop and ideas were really helpful for an assignment I was working on and got me thinking about where I can focus my energy and have impact."

Why wonder?

Wonder creates the conditions for curiosity. Curiosity creates the conditions for learning. Learning creates the conditions for change.

At Bird Island, we believe that innovation begins long before solutions appear. It begins with the ability to notice, question and imagine. That is the work of wonder.
